My 4 Favorite Sleep Sacks

Over my many years of caring for young children, I have tried and tested hundreds of baby products, some that have been an absolute game changer and some… a little lack luster. Through a lot of trial and error, I have curated a list of safe, reliable products that I know and trust and today, we’re talking all about my favorite sleep sacks.

Why Use a Sleep Sack?

Sleep Sacks are a safe sleep option for babies who are under 12 months of age, but can be used well into toddlerhood (really until they physically grow out of it). If you are using a swaddle and your baby begins to show signs of trying to roll (typically around 2 months), it’s time to transition to the sleep sack. Sleep sacks allow your baby to stay cozy and regulate their body temperature without the need for blankets or duvets (which should never be used for babies under 12 months). They are also a great option for bedsharing families and older toddlers who may get frustrated with blankets throughout the night!

So, now you know the basics for why you should be using a sleep sack,

but with so many products to choose from, how do you know which one is the right fit for your little one?

That’s where I come in! As a holistic sleep consultant, and longtime caregiver, I know a thing or two when it comes to safe, comfortable, and worthwhile sleep products. So, let’s dive right and and talk about my 4 favorite sleep sacks:

1. Woolino 4 Season Sleep Sack

All I can say is “I wish they had it in my size!” Woolino is by far my favorite sleep sack I have ever come across. The incredibly soft, 100% Merino wool makes for 4 season temperature control to keep your little one cozy all year long. My other favorite feature? Woolino sleep sack is long lasting, fitting your 2 month to 2-YEAR-old! Not only does Woolino offer incredibly soft, breathable sleep sacks, they also come in the most precious colors and patterns!

The Pros:

  • 100% Merino wool for optimal temperature control (1 sleep sack for all seasons!)

  • Universal size from 2 months to 2 YEARS (i.e. spend less in the long run with ONE sleep sack)

  • Double shoulder snaps and 2 way zipper for easy dressing and diapering

  • Wider and longer fit for proper hip and leg movement

  • Soft, durable and long lasting (perfect for growing families)

  • Adorable, minimalist print options

The Cons:

  • On the expensive end of the spectrum

  • Machine washable, but best to line dry or “no heat” tumble dry

  • Natural fibers sometimes pill, but lessens with each wash

2. Burt’s Bees Sleep Sack

Our next favorite sleep sack is from Burt’s Bees. I have always loved Burt’s Bee’s organic cotton baby sleepwear, so naturally, I had to give this one a try. Obviously, I was sold! This is my favorite option for a lighter TOG rating, but they do come in both 0.5 and 1.5 TOG options. Both the lightweight and quilted options are soft, made of organic cotton, and offer options for both summer and winter months.

The Pros:

  • 100% organic cotton

  • Comes in both 0.5 & 1.5 TOG options

  • Breathable, lightweight material in 0.5 TOG is ideal for warmer months

  • Zipper cover protects baby’s skin

  • Machine wash and dry-able

  • Lower end of the price spectrum

  • Many print options to choose from

The Cons:

  • No shoulder snaps

  • No 2 way zipper

  • Less ideal for diaper changes

  • Not as roomy as other options, so you will have to buy the appropriate size as your child grows

3. Woolino Footless Sleep Sack

Can you tell I have a fondness for Woolino? Seriously, this material is so breathable and cozy! While the 4 season sleep sack is my all time favorite option, the footless sleeper is a great alternative to the traditional sleep sack. Whether you have a new walker and are worried about tripping, or your little one tends to get overheated, you might consider the footless sleeper option.

The Pros:

  • 100% Merino wool for optimal temperature control (1 sleep sack for all seasons!)

  • 3 size options for your growing babe

  • Zipper cover to protect kiddo’s skin

  • Ankle cuffs offer more mobility

  • Ideal for new walkers, toddlers & preschoolers, and bedsharing families

  • Soft, durable and long lasting (perfect for growing families)

The Cons:

  • On the expensive end of the spectrum

  • Machine washable, but best to line dry or “no heat” tumble dry

  • Natural fibers sometimes pill, but diminishes with each wash

4. GUNAMUNA Sleep Sack

When it comes to sleep sacks made with bamboo fiber, this one is my favorite by far! Bamboo fiber is incredibly soft and gentle on baby’s skin. The GUNAMUNA sleep sack is a great option for all seasons, but the higher TOG rating options are particularly nice in the cooler months and climates. The natural bamboo fiber is breathable and hypoallergenic, while also keeping baby snug and cozy. As opposed to other bamboo sleep sack options, this one offers a wider and longer fit for optimal hip and leg movement and “frog” positioning.

The Pros:

  • Organic bamboo rayon is incredibly soft, breathable & hypoallergenic

  • Wider and longer fit for proper hip and leg movement

  • Multiple TOG rating options

  • 2 way zipper for easy diapering

The Cons:

  • No shoulder snaps

  • Machine washable, but best to air dry

Conclusion

There are many options when it comes to purchasing the essential baby “must-haves” and I hope this guide has helped you narrow your search for at least one of those items! Looking for other sleepy product recs? Check out my top 5 baby sleep products!
